The week in a nutshell: We're staying cold through midweek with highs in the low 30s Monday through Wednesday. A warm-up arrives Thursday with highs near 45°, and we should hit the low 50s by the weekend. Dry conditions expected all week.

Regents Park Trades Duplexes for Detached Homes
The city council unanimously approved a change to the Regents Park development last week. Seven lots originally planned as twin villas will now become single-family homes instead. The developer cited market conditions for the switch. The 4.6-acre section sits south of 135th Street and west of Kenneth Road. Some councilmembers questioned whether the change conflicts with the city's goal of diversifying housing options.

Kansas City Chiefs (Offseason)

Draft Season Begins. With the combine approaching in March, mock drafts are flying. ESPN's Matt Miller projects the Chiefs targeting edge rush help in the first round. Pro Football Focus released a full seven-round projection, and most analysts agree: pass rush and safety depth are the priorities.

Eric Bieniemy Building His Staff. The new offensive coordinator has been busy recruiting assistant coaches from the college ranks. Deland McCullough interviewed for the running backs coach position last week, bringing NFL experience from the Colts.

Individual Honors. Center Creed Humphrey was named a finalist for the new NFL Protector of the Year award, recognizing elite offensive linemen.

Kansas City Royals (Offseason)

Pitchers and Catchers Report February 12. Spring training kicks off in Surprise, Arizona in just over a week. The club spent the offseason adding hitting coordinators Abrahan Nunez and Nic Jackson to revamp player development.

Smaller Outfield Coming. The outfield walls at Kauffman Stadium are moving in 9-10 feet for 2026. Expect more home runs for both teams this season.

Sporting Kansas City (Preseason)

Mixed Results in Florida. SKC dropped a 1-0 scrimmage to Charlotte FC in Palm Beach Gardens last week after losing by the same score to Chicago Fire earlier in preseason. The club opened camp with a win over FIU. Forward Calvin Harris signed as a free agent to bolster the attack. Regular season kicks off March 1.

New Coach, New Season. Chris Armas was named head coach in January, replacing the departed staff. The club acquired forward Nichelle Prince from Boston and re-signed goalkeeper Clare Gagne. Forward Amelia White extended through 2027. Single-match tickets are on sale now. Season opener: March 14 at CPKC Stadium vs. Utah Royals.

Prairie Village: Story Closes After 15 Years
Story, the acclaimed American restaurant at the Shops of Prairie Village, has closed its doors. The restaurant opened in 2011 and earned 11 Wine Spectator "Best of Award of Excellence" honors. Chef Carl Thorne-Thomsen was a James Beard semifinalist for Best Chef Midwest in 2013 and 2022. A loss for the local dining scene.

Overland Park: Snow Map Gets Passing Grade
After the first major snowstorm of 2026, Overland Park officials say the city's new Snow Operations Map performed well. The online tool replaced an older version that drew criticism in 2025 for inaccurate and delayed updates. City crews reported smoother operations with real-time tracking.
